It’s Afternoon Tea Week, the most civilised excuse for cake-eating we’ve ever heard and we’re here to make it extra special. Sure, you could pop to a café, but there’s something magical about homemade treats: the scent wafting from the oven, the slightly wonky shapes that prove they’re made with love, and that first warm bite that says, I did that.

So, meet your new teatime hero: Earl Grey & Orange Drop Scones. They’re buttery, delicately scented with vanilla, laced with citrus, and topped with a sweet glaze plus a slice of orange so pretty you’ll want to share them with everyone on Instagram - Just make sure you tag us.

The Earl Grey brings a gentle floral note, the orange zest keeps things bright and zippy, and together they create the perfect bite for a celebratory spread whether you’re going full tiered cake stand or just popping the kettle on.

For the Drop Scone:


  • 420g plain flower
  • 20g baking powder
  • 140g sugar
  • 1 zest of orange
  • 1 bag of earl grey
  • 1tsp Vanilla bean extract
  • 80g butter
  • 260ml warm milk

For the Orange Glaze:


  • 1/2 cup (60g) powdered sugar
  • 1–2 tbsp fresh orange juice
  • Extra orange zest (optional)

Method



1. Cube cold butter rub with the dry ingredients, add the wet until just comes together.


2. Portion out the dough and keep it rough.


3. Brush with egg.


4. Bake in a 180 oven for 16-18 minutes until golden.


5. Once cooled drizzle over glaze and decorate with slice of orange.
